Understanding moments God Seems to be silent
Lazarus was very sick and his sisters sent a word to Jesus concerning his illness, but what is surprising is the reaction of Jesus when he received the news. He did not rush to Lazarus’ aid, but took time to make his way to help his friend. Only when the storm is over, that’s when you notice that he was always with you. When the sisters sent out the word, they expected Jesus to come immediately and help them, but he remained quiet, only to arrive after the man had died and already been buried. Imagine the emotions and the thoughts they had, seeing their brother sick and finally burying him.
Many people have been in situations where they cried out to God for aid and yet it seemed God remained quiet. Mary and Martha were happy to see Jesus when he finally came, but they were broken because they expected him earlier. Jesus, even before his appearance at Bethany he was always there with them and had prepared a solution for them. For them their brother had already been dead but Jesus speaking to his disciples said he sleepiest. When he arrived at Bethany they had given up and accepted, in that moment you start thinking I will never get married or my situation will never change that’s the moment Jesus comes and asks them to remove the stone from him tomb.
Why did Jesus wait until Lazarus had died? The whole community knew about the relationship Jesus had with Lazarus and his sisters. When Jesus showed up, no one expected to hear him say ‘open up the tomb’. Jesus even wept because of what he saw. He stood by the tomb and called out to Lazarus and the man who had been dead for four days came back to life. When Jesus did not immediately respond to the message of Mary and Martha, he knew that at the end Lazarus would resurrect.
He was never quiet but to those that were in Bethany, it seems Jesus had ignored the request of his friends. That’s how we at times feel when we cry out to God and He seems not to have heard our prayer. The sisters wanted Jesus to heal their brother, but Jesus knew there was something better than healing that would happen to their brother.
Why does it seem like God waits until that dream is dead or your request seems impossible and unattainable? When Lazarus walked out of that tomb everyone was in awe and the message of his resurrection spread all over Jerusalem.
God seems to specializes in raising dead things. At times He is not quiet, but is waiting for the right moment to appear. Don’t lose hope even if the situation seems dead and there seems to be no possible way to recover from that situation. Remember even the sisters of Lazarus had already buried him when Jesus finally arrived at their residence.
God is never late and even in that quietness He is saying something. When Jesus asked for them to roll away the stone, they had excuses. Don’t stop God’s hand even if the situation seems dead, all you have to do is trust Him. When Mary and Martha had given up and had buried their brother, that is when Jesus came and restored him back to life. No matter how dead your situation is, remember God is in the business of raising dead things. He is never quiet, but He is working behind the scenes for your miracle and just because He seems quiet does not mean He is quiet. We are not supposed to focus on the visible things which are temporary. There is no situation that is permanent in the presence of God and there is no circumstances He can not remedy.
