How To Deal With The Spirit Of Shame

The spirit of shame is a strange type of demon because it does not dwell in your spirit, nor does it inhabit your body. The spirit of shame affects your outward appearance. Many people who struggle with the spirit of shame really struggle with their outward appearance. You can be the most educated person, you can be the smartest person, but yet when people see you, they do not honor you; shame always causes you to lose honor in the eyes of those around you.

The Bible shows us the story of Lazarus after he had been resurrected from the dead. When Lazarus was resurrected, he stepped out of the tomb, but what was striking is that Lazarus was still clothed in his burial clothes. You need to understand that after being three days in the grave, he was now stinking, meaning that the clothes he was wearing were decaying. So the moment he came out of the grave, though he had received his miracle, he still was wearing his grave clothes. One can be born again, but still be wearing that garment of shame.

This is why many people call it a garment of shame because it is something that you put on. Shame is put on. The Bible says, "Put on the full armor of God," and in the same way that one puts on the full armor of God, many have been dressed in garments of shame. You need to understand that you need assistance to remove garments of shame. Jesus said to the people who were by the tomb of Lazarus, "Help him to get out of the burial garments."

A lot of times, people who struggle with the spirit of shame need help from others to break out of that system, and for this garment to be removed. So Jesus instructed them to help Lazarus to come out because you need to understand the reason why you need others to help you to remove the garment of shame is that you might no longer know that you are walking in shame. You have gotten used to shame, that you think it's normal. You can even get so used to poverty, that you think it's normal.

When Lazarus woke up from the dead, he was putting on the grave clothes; it could be because of the shock he could not smell and sense the fact that the clothes hindered him from interacting and connecting with others.

Many ask how does the spirit of shame affect a person? When a person has the spirit of shame, they do not have honor; others do not honor them. When a person has the spirit of shame, they do not have favor with others. The spirit of shame causes you to have a disadvantage. You go into a place, even though you are educated, you don't have an advantage. Even though you have the most experience at work, you don't have an advantage. So it causes you to have a disadvantage.

So shame, in a way, is a symbol of the opposite of honor. What honor can do, shame is the opposite of. But a lot of people who struggle with shame do not know that they need help to break free from this demonic influence. Remember, shame is a spirit that doesn't inhabit or affect the human soul; it affects your outward appearance. Just as Lazarus was helped by others, you are helped to break free from the spirit. And the key is always in finding helpers that help you to be lifted above the place or the functioning from. So shame, you need assistance.
