n today's world, many assume that a watchman is only someone who prays for eight or twelve hours a day—someone super spiritual, always interceding in the church. But the calling of a watchman extends beyond the prayer closet. You can be a watchman in your workplace, your community, and your sphere of influence. A watchman is anyone who stands in alignment with God's will, being His vessel in any environment He places them.
A Watchman in the Workplace
"I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence." (Isaiah 62:6, KJV)
Being a watchman does not necessarily mean standing on a literal wall or constantly looking out for evil spirits. It means yielding to God's process and allowing Him to use you wherever you are. A nurse, for example, may be ministering to someone experiencing trauma. Because they are spiritually aligned, God may begin speaking to them about the person's pain. Without ever saying, "Thus says the Lord," the way they care for the individual allows healing to take place.
The reason why sexual immorality, corruption, and negativity thrive in some workplaces is that believers have not stood as watchmen.
